The Youth Project is commencing taster sessions from Monday 5th June until Monday 17th July from 4.00p.m until 5.30p.m. The sessions are for Year 6 pupils who would like to go along and see what a great range of activities the Youth Club can offer.
WW1 Commemorative Seats
Brandon Carrside Youth and Community Project, Brandon Community Partnership and the Parish Council have joined forces to deliver a history project throughout the last year supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This has seen many offsite educational visits to museums and places of interest all relating to World War 1. In 2016, a group of students went across to Normandy and visited the Somme battlefields. This year another group are researching

Commemorative seat Silver Courts
the centenary of Passchendaele, along with inter-generational days out to Manchester Imperial War Museum and Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds and the Durham Light Infantry. The culmination of this history project has resulted in 6 elaborate commemorative benches being installed throughout the Parish – look out for them in your village. An official launch event will take place at Brandon Carrside on Monday March 13th at 10.30am witha viewing of the final bench to be installed. Everyone is welcome to come along and see the design and beauty of this piece of artwork designed by inter-generational members of our local community.
Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth
Parish Councillors, local schoolchildren, clergy and members of the community gathered together on Monday 13th March 2017 at Carrside Youth & Community Project to celebrate Commonwealth Day. The Chairman of the Parish Council officiated at the event which included children from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs RC Primary, Esh Winning, Browney Academy, Silver Trees Primary and St. Joseph’s RC Primary in Ushaw Moor and Brandon Primary. The Chairman opened the event by welcoming everyone present and then read out a message from the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Nations. The commonwealth affirmation was read by Poppy Jackson, from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs school and the children from Brandon Primary read out short pieces about the 12 principles of peace-making and displayed bunting made up of the 53 Commonwealth flags. Refreshments were provided by Carrside Youth Club following the ceremony.
Christmas Lights Switch On Events
The Christmas tree lights switch on event in Ushaw Moor will take place on Friday 1st December 2017 at 3.30p.m at the centre of the village. Choirs from Silver Trees and St.Joseph’s Primary schools and Deerness Community Business College will sing carols while Fr.David Coxon will perform the switch on. The Baptist Church will be providing hot drinks during the event. Everyone is welcome to come along to this festive community event.
Chairman’s Charity Evening
Chairman of the Councilwould like to thank everyone who supported her Charity evening on Friday 25th November 2016 in The British Legion Club, Meadowfield. The evening was a great success and raised £1,473 for Brandon Carrside Youth & Community Project and St.John’s Hall, Meadowfield. A total of £2,074 has been raised so far.
